 CHERICE’S STORY

“My current career transition is one of the most pivotal phases of my journey as an artist. Supported by the DTRC’s Retraining Grant, I am fully immersing myself in training for a Creative Producer role in both live and televised productions. With a background as a dancer, educator, associate choreographer, choreographer, and director, this shift into producing aligns with my enduring passion for creative leadership. It is also a strategic move at this stage in my life, as it offers meaningful work without the physical demands of performing. Under the guidance of a mentor, I am acquiring the skills and insights needed to excel in this new chapter.

The DTRC has profoundly influenced my career, providing invaluable support through career transition guidance, personal counseling, skills development grants, and, most recently, the Retraining Grant. This grant in particular is poised to shape my future by enhancing my financial sustainability and nurturing my creative spirit. The DTRC’s support has made this essential career transition not only achievable but thoughtfully aligned with my current stage of life and career.”
