Criteria

Membership in the Dancer Transition Resource Centre is open to all professional dancers legally entitled to work in Canada, and to Canadian professional dancers working abroad. The dancer must be at least 18 years of age, be actively looking for dance performance opportunities, and:

  • have had at least one professional dance performance within the past two years;

     OR

  • be an emerging dancer who has undertaken specialized training (see below) within the past two years.

DTRC recognizes communities define what “professional” means in their own context. Thus, the term “professional” is defined differently by different cultures and dance practices. DTRC acknowledges this and seeks to be inclusive of all communities by using the following definition of “professional dancer” within the form below.

*If you are unsure about your eligibility to renew due to extenuating circumstances (injury or other health-related concerns, parental leave, etc.), please contact membership@dtrc.ca to discuss.

Fees

    • Membership fees are based on your gross annual earnings from the previous tax year as a dancer/interpreter, including all performance-related activity (i.e. creation, rehearsal and performance).
    • For example, if paying fees for the 2024/2025 membership year, the amount is based on your performance-related income for the 2023 tax year.
    • You will be asked to select a pay bracket from the fees list that corresponds to these gross annual earnings.
    • The annual membership fee minimum is $75 and maximum is $250.
    • Members in financial need may request a payment plan to remit their fees. Please email nationaloffice@dtrc.ca to arrange details.

Active Grant Recipients

If you are receiving a Retraining Grant, Full-Time Subsistence Grant (Type 1 or Type 2), or a Special Award from the DTRC that continues in the 2024-2025 membership year, you must maintain your membership in good standing. If you are currently receiving one of these grants or a Special Award and are not currently performing, check the “On a Retraining Grant, Subsistence Grant or Special Award” box on the renewal form.

Become an Alumni

Alumni are former members who are no longer performing and have graduated from DTRC’s membership programs. Many of our alumni continue their relationship with the DTRC and choose to transform their membership fee into a monthly or annual donation. As an alumni, you have the opportunity to give back to dance artists like yourself as they navigate their own career development and transition journeys.
