NATASHA’S STORY

“When I was young, I imagined myself pursuing two career paths: professional dancer, and mental health professional. I have always had an interest in helping people, and I hope to become a therapist to help in a more skilled and professional way. I am thankful to say I have enjoyed a fruitful dance career thus far, leading me to my current job as a dancer for Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (DJD). Throughout my dance career I never forgot about my second goal and during my time with DJD, I was made aware of the Dancer Transition Resource Centre (DTRC). DTRC has been an incredibly helpful resource, and with grants such as the Skills Grant, Career Exploration Grant, and the Retraining and Subsistence Grants, I have been able to work toward my goal while dancing professionally.

I am thankful for my affiliation with the DTRC. Each grant I received continues to propel me toward my end goal. The DTRC team has been extremely supportive no matter the question or concern. I am especially grateful for the flexibility surrounding my program along the way. I also received some personal counselling during a tough time in my life, yet another major benefit of this membership. The DTRC has been nothing short of incredible, I highly recommend membership to any dancer planning to pursue a second career.”
