PERSONAL COUNSELLING

Personal counsellors – including psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, registered social workers, licensed counsellors, or similar complementary practices such as counsellors practicing in spiritual, community-based, or other mental wellness support practices – can help dancers address personal concerns and resolve issues that may be impacting their careers. (If you are uncertain whether a specific practice or practitioner fits within our program, we welcome you to ask us. Your input helps us assess and adapt our programs to better respond to your needs.)

(Due to funding limitations and DTRC’s staff capacity, this pilot program is currently limited to Toronto-based dancers and to Personal Counselling* ONLY. In future, we hope to expand the program and to include other regions and other forms of counselling and coaching.)

HOW DO I APPLY?

  1. Complete the application form.
  2. A Counselling Program team member will contact you within 2–4 weeks to verify your application and approve you to submit receipts for reimbursement (Pilot Program).
  3. Once verified and approved, you will meet with your counsellor on a one-to-one basis. Sessions may be in-person, online, or by phone.
  4. In the Pilot Program, once approved, applicants pay for sessions themselves and are given instructions on how to submit paid receipts to DTRC for reimbursement. Sessions will be logged on your file. You are also encouraged to keep track of the number of sessions reimbursed.

Please Note:
In our Pilot Program, practitioners must be licensed professionals with appropriate insurance as applicable to their practice. Applicants are responsible for ensuring this for themselves.
