- Career Pathway: Massage Therapist
David Campbell: I am a Sports Massage Therapist based in Longueuil, Quebec, with extensive training in a variety of manual therapy techniques. My client base spans a broad spectrum, from individuals with no athletic background to amateur and professional athletes. Alongside my practice, I have been performing professionally as a contemporary dancer for approximately 15 years on national and international stages, working with renowned choreographers such as Ginette Laurin, Roger Sinha, Marie-Claude Poulin, and Hélène Langevin.
DAVID’S STORY
“My transition coincided with the birth of my first child; I had to find a more sustainable work-life balance. This period also aligned with the pandemic, which significantly disrupted the performing arts and slowed my dance career. To begin my transition, I used the Career Exploration Grant to explore massage therapy. I had always been interested in manual therapy but wanted to experience it firsthand. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and found that the physical demands were manageable. I then used Retraining Grants to study Swedish massage and further specialize in sports massage. The Subsistence Grant enabled me to train more extensively in a field I was passionate about, spend more time with my family, and build my new career while maintaining my mental and physical health.
DTRC’s support allowed me to focus on building a successful parallel career, greatly accelerated my transition, permitted me to further my training and improve my skillset, which enabled me to create my own massage therapy practice. I was able to maintain a sustainable work-life balance throughout my transition, having time to spend with my young children, not feeling pressured to work in conditions that would be detrimental to my children’s growth and my overall well-being. DTRC has helped accelerate and facilitate my successful transition.”
