Shana Ai 愛 Wolfe is a Japanese-Canadian freelance dance artist based in so-called Vancouver, on the unceded territory of the Squamish, Musqueam, and the Tsleil-Waututh peoples. She collaborates with local dance companies like Company 605 and Inverso Productions, as well as independent artists like Cindy Mochizuki and Anya Saugstad among others. Currently pursuing Kinesiology at Langara College, she hopes to blend her passion for movement and wellness.
SHANA’S STORY
“For the past six years, I have worked as a freelance dancer, driven by an interest in the body’s mechanics, its functionality and its ability to create incredible coordinations. Through dance, movement, and my own injuries, I have become more curious about the body’s ability to heal itself. With a growing passion to help people achieve and express their body’s utmost potential, I have decided to pursue a degree in Kinesiology. The DTRCs Skills Grant was instrumental in funding the beginning of my education; without their support, I might not have taken this significant step in which I am grateful for the opportunity to align my passions.
The DTRC Skills Grant has helped me to balance freelancing as a dance artist while pursuing Kinesiology at Langara College. While continuing to collaborate with dance companies and independent artists, I realized my desire to deepen my understanding of movement through academic study. The DTRC Skills Grant has been instrumental in this shift, helping me to fund the start of my schooling and supporting me as I navigate full-time studies alongside my freelance career.”
