HAMILTON’S STORY
“The ERICA Access Counselling program enabled me to start channelling my future aspirations into concrete actions. It has long been clear for me that, after I retire from performing, I wish to continue dedicating my life to dance as an art form. Through inspiring one-on-one sessions with a personal coach, I decided that to ensure my years of accumulated experience as a dancer can contribute to future generations, I should first and foremost develop my ability to teach.
The DTRC’s Career Exploration Grant covered a large portion of the cost for me to attend the Royal Ballet School’s Inspire Teacher Training Seminar. In an astonishingly thorough 6 sessions, the RBS courses showed me how I could transcribe my own personal experiences into teachings of value for others. I was particularly inspired by the focus on teaching practices aimed at empowering students to become their own best lifelong teachers. While I am still working as a full-time dancer today, and hope to continue for years to come, I also look forward to drawing on more of the invaluable resources available to DTRC members and building on my overall evolution as an artist.
Not only has the DTRC provided me with an array of practical tools to imagine, define and start building my future post-performing career, its numerous career development programs have proven a stimulating resource inspiring me to become a better dancer in the present. I also feel the conscientious and human-centered approach I’ve experienced makes the DTRC an aspirational example for organizations in general and our society as a whole.”
