on the MOVE is a FREE professional development event for graduating students and emerging dance artists of all genres. We welcome you into the professional community with lively panels, workshops and networking activities.

Learn about Indigenous Hoop dance, movement and the philosophy behind Pow Wow + Hoop Dancing.  This is a time to get grounded and set our intention for the day.  Discover new moves along with your peers from pre-professional programs across the Lower Mainland.  Let’s move together to activate our minds and bodies for the day.

How do you build a successful dance career? Hear from a diverse group of enterprising emerging artists who are making the right moves and opening up exciting doors for their careers.  Should you keep trying to ‘get the gig’ or make your own? Hear about the twists and turns these artists have had to navigate as they built their dance careers.

You are not alone! Artist service organizations can provide professional guidance and resources, and open the door to a new community of dancers.

1:30--2:30  Developing Your Voice – bookings, contracts + industry standards 
Facilitated by CADA/West
Issues can arise in any job or collaboration, but there is groundwork that can be put in place to mitigate conflicts before they arise.  Learn about the process of booking a job, the necessary components of a contract, and industry standards for income and employment expectations. 
2:30-3:15 The Business of Dance

Whether you are applying for a grant, pitching to a festival, marketing your show, dancers need clarity around their artistic goals and ambitions.  Learn from the pros how to identify your values, mission and why you do what you do, so you can present yourself as the unique artistic voice that you are.

3:30-5:00 Mindfulosophy 
Facilitated by Cecily Elmas
Setting a 10-year vision and the goals that support it allows you to create a clear picture of an ideal future and what it takes to get there. Jumping 10 years into the future inspires you to dream big because it removes the constraints of time, money and knowledge. Creating goals from your vision allows you to make a plan for achieving your ideal life. Get ready to step into the world of possibility and to create your future!
