Angel Wong - from Dancer to Designer

"My whole world has opened up to see this huge outlet of design and art, of concepts and ideas." - Angel Wong

Formerly a dancer with Ballet Jorgen Canada, Angel Wong decided to leave the stage because of a painful chronic back injury. With the support of a DTRC Retraining Grant, she is now studying Environmental Design at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) in Toronto.

"OCAD is a very creative place and I am constantly surrounded by talented artists and inspiring work and while I miss dance, my whole world has opened up to see this huge outlet of design and art, of concepts and ideas. I think it’s easy to forget sometimes how easy it is to be stuck in what I used to call a “ballet bubble” --- you grow up in ballet school, and then you get into a company and you are always so focused on one thing. Now I feel that I have 10 other bubbles connected to my own bubble and now everything has expanded. It’s wonderful. My background has definitely been a major advantage to me in my school."
