At an age when many professionals are entering their most productive years, a dancer’s career often ends. With tuition fees now rising three times faster than the rate of inflation*, dancers in transition are struggling to cope with the cost of retraining.
The Dancer Transition Resource Centre (DTRC) is the lifeline for hundreds of professional dancers when they need it most. Your support helps dancers prepare for life after dance by providing counselling and retraining assistance. Both are key to a successful transition. For 27 years, the DTRC has been the only Canadian organization helping dancers navigate the transition to a second career. Please donate today and help these incredible artists Step Forward towards a new beginning.

Dahlia Steinberg
Principal training: The School of Toronto Dance Theatre
Danced with: MOTUS O and others
Currently retraining in: Massage Therapy at the Ontario College of Health and Technology
“The body’s power and grace, with which I am familiar from my years of being a dancer, can not only be expressed artistically and kinetically – but also in its incredible ability to heal with the help of a caring, competent, and dedicated health care professional. This is the kind of massage therapist I aspire to be. With your support I will not only have the ability to start a career in a field of growing opportunity and demand but I will have a vocation – one that, in almost every way, is an extension of my lifetime love of dance.”

Principal training: Canada’s National Ballet School
Danced with: Anna Wyman Dance Theatre
Retrained in: Medicine
“All dancers can feel this profound, and often painful, transition out of dance and into civilian life on their periphery. I was determined to focus my dancer’s drive on an ambitious field, to embed myself in a challenging discipline that positively impacts the widest array of lives. These new dreams were only realized with ample support from the DTRC - when I finally entered medical school, I came armed with an abundance of it. Today, I have practiced in the same primary care clinic for 17 years. It’s sometimes hard to believe that nearly 3,000 people now trust me as their doctor.” Read full story...
