What's Happening

Remembering Rachel Browne

2012 / 06 / 15

We would like to take a moment to honour the life of Rachel Browne, a pioneer of contemporary dance in Canada and an early board member of the DTRC, who passed away last Saturday.  The DTRC extends its sincerest sympathies to Rachel's family, friends, colleagues, and students.  Her significant contribution to dance will not soon be forgotten.

"Rachel Browne's contribution to the world of dance is truly immeasurable,” says DTRC founder Joysanne Sidimus.  “As the Founder of Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers and a choreographer/dancer of originality and passion, her talent was appreciated by all.  As an early Board member of the DTRC, her realistic, practical yet tremendously committed approach was invaluable in the creation, sustainability and vision of those early years. I will miss her.  Farewell to a great spirit."

A public celebration of her life will be held today, June 15th, at 2:30pm on the Piano Nobile level of the Centennial Concert Hall, 555 Main Street, Winnipeg.
