Zaena is an arts administrator with a passion for dance, music and community building. She graduated from Simon Fraser University with concentrations in the Humanities, Contemporary Arts and Curatorial Practices.
Working across sectors, Zaena has delivered professional development programs for visionary artists, activists, scholars, youth, entrepreneurs, public service and social profit leaders. She collaborated with the SFU Institute for the Humanities to create a variety of youth leadership and ‘peace dialogue’ forums. She’s coordinated live performances, arts education and outreach programs for the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival, the BC Choral Federation, and the Department of Canadian Heritage. She has also delivered professional development conferences for public service leaders and helped to establish new networking groups with dynamic young entrepreneurs. Her portfolio is rounded out with some experience in grant research, policy analysis, communications and marketing. Most recently, Zaena has been ‘blogging’ for the Museum of Vancouver and exploring exciting new tools in digital media design.
An artist at heart, Zaena has performed with the Vancouver Bach Choir, the VSO, Vancouver Opera Chorus, as well as, local jazz/folk musicians. Dance is her life long love, and she’s enjoyed studying a wide variety of styles –from ballet to flamenco and lindy hop. Zaena is thrilled to join the DTRC team, and looks forward to assisting members in her role as BC Program Officer.
