Born in Sussex England, Miss Jago is a graduate of the prestigious Royal Ballet School in London. She joined the National Ballet of Canada in 1966 and quickly rose through the ranks to become a Principal Dancer in 1970. Miss Jago is well known for her leading roles in ballets such as Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Les Sylphides, Don Juan, The Moors Pavane and Coppelia. She not only had a long and very rewarding career, but also had the great honour of being partnered by some of the greatest male dancers of the twentieth century, including Rudolph Nureyev, Sir Anthony Dowell, Erik Bruhn, Peter Schaufuss and Frank Augustyn. Retiring in 1984, she joined the staff of the National Ballet as Ballet Mistress at the request of Erik Bruhn, Artistic Director at the time, a position she held until 1992. Now a much sought after Teacher, Dance Educator and Adjudicator, she travels across Canada passing on her knowledge to both students and teachers.

In early 1998 she was approached by Ballet Jorgen to create a new Dance Programme for George Brown College, an extremely demanding and often frustrating task! By May 2001 this happily became a reality and a one year Certificate and a two year Diploma Post Secondary Programme are now in place.

Mary joined the DTRC as a National Representative in March 2002.
